LEPT and EPOMM

Early in 2006, the Department for Transport (DfT), in partnership with the London European Partnership for Transport announced UK membership within the European Platform On Mobility Management (EPOMM).

UK Membership in EPOMM enables positive interaction between national, regional and local government in the UK and the rest of the EU. It provides a ‘partner-search’ network for local authorities to facilitate involvement in EC-financed projects, and ensures a more influential position on European mobility management policy. A wide variety of best practice information is also available through EPOMM, which can provide specific advice or research as necessary.

The London European Partnership for Transport (LEPT) acts as the national focal point for UK representation within EPOMM. The LEPT secretariat coordinates, assesses and disseminates work in the arena of European sustainable transport including policy, projects, best practice and funding opportunities. The relationship between LEPT and EPOMM means that for the first time, there are resources available to make concrete links on sustainable transport with European networks and local authorities from other EU states.

Paul Henderson, European Project Manager for LEPT, acts as the national contact or ‘focal point’ for EPOMM on behalf of the DfT.

Dissemination Work

The LEPT secretariat represents the UK on the EPOMM board, the ECOMM International Programme Committee, and at the annual conference. LEPT engages in a variety of dissemination and reporting activities, including quarterly e-newsletters and regular updates on EPOMM activities as necessary. In addition, LEPT holds an annual dissemination event to raise awareness within the UK of the activities and projects that are underway in Europe.

Information is circulated through the UK sustainable transport network ACT Travelwise, as well as through regional government offices.

If you would like to be included in the EPOMM UK mailing list, please email info@lept-eu.org and include ‘EPOMM Mailing List’ in the title.
