The Greater London Authority (GLA) Greater London is made up of 33 separate municipalities – 32 London Boroughs and the Corporation of London, which has responsibility for the 'square mile' – the financial heart of London. Each of these local authorities is made up of elected councillors representing wards within the borough, often resulting in a 'cabinet' of members with responsibility for specific topic. The Greater London Authority (GLA) is the city-wide governing body for London. It consists of a directly elected executive Mayor of London and an elected 25-member London Assembly with scrutiny powers. The GLA is responsible for the strategic administration of the 1579 kmē (610 sq. miles) of Greater London. It shares local government powers with the councils of 32 London boroughs and the City of London Corporation. For further information, visit the GLA website at: www.london.gov.uk |
